Looped Thai fonts

Looped Thai letters begin many of their strokes with a small circle, the head of the letter, as you can see in บ, ด and ม. It is the form children learn to write, the form most books and newspapers are set in, and the form official documents use, so a looped face is the safe choice for anything people read at length.

This collection holds 54 families. They range from the national fonts used in government letters, such as TH Sarabun New, through text faces made for screens, such as Sarabun and Noto Sans Thai Looped, to calligraphic scripts like Charm, whose loops come straight from the pen. Loops are small details and need a little size to stay clear, so Thai body text is usually set a step larger than Latin, with generous line spacing for the marks above and below. If a design wants the modern look of a loopless face in its headlines, keep a looped face for the text.
