Thai fonts under the GPL with the font exception

13 families use the GNU General Public License with the font exception: the fonts the Thai Linux Working Group maintains, such as Garuda, Kinnari, Loma, Norasi and the Tlwg typewriter set, plus TH Sarabun New, whose files carry the GPL rather than the DIP/SIPA licence.

The GPL lets you use, share and change the fonts freely. The font exception adds the part that matters most to designers: a document or web page that embeds the font does not fall under the GPL itself. When you pass the font files on, the GPL travels with them and their source has to be available; for the TLWG fonts we offer the upstream source package next to the downloads. These families grew up on Linux desktops, so many of them are dependable interface and document faces.
